I arrived in Seoul last year towards the end of November. I started working at Daechi April campus at at the beginning of their winter term. My year was almost up, so it was time for me to think seriously about whether I wanted to renew my contract. In the end, I chose to stay working as an April Chungdahm teacher. When I think of the reasons for making this decision, I believe I can sum them up into the following three categories:
Having the chance to fly out to Korea as a Chungdahm teacher was my first opportunity. Then, I had only been working in Seoul for a month when I got a message from my wonderful Aclipse recruiter, Collette, informing me that she recommended me to the marketing manager for the position of marketing assistant. I applied and began my job as a marketing assistant in February. It was a very pleasant surprise and an aspect of my life in Seoul that enhanced my overall experience. Moreover, after working as a teacher for about eight months, I was pleasantly surprised that my branch manager approached me with the intent to promote me to head teacher at my branch. Thus, time and time again, I have found myself progressing, expanding and developing my skills while working for Chungdahm.
Settled and Comfortable
From the start I knew I wanted to be placed in Seoul. My recruiter listened to me and helped me receive a contract offer in Seoul. The capital is very lively. There is so much to do and see, and there is always something new happening. I have fully adjusted my lifestyle to fix with the society around me. I’ve met many good people who helped me adjust and assimilate. I feel as though I have found my group of friends. Plus, I am located in a great part of Seoul, where there is always a lot to do near me. Also, I’ve successfully made my space into a cozy home. I’m all settled, comfortable and satisfied.
While everything I have mentioned is wonderful, I believe the main reason for my desire to renew my contract boils down to the fact that I very much enjoy Korea itself - the language, the people, the nature, the culture, and the food. All the reasons that first drew me to Korea didn’t let me down and are more than enough to keep me in Seoul longer.
I am excited to say that I will keep discovering new and exciting things to share with everyone for at least a bit longer!
Giselle Moreno is from California, USA where she attended the University of California, Riverside. While a student, she always worked with international students and she decided to teach English abroad upon graduating during her third year of university. It was through the experiences of being an English tutor for international students that she felt really fulfilled. She found it particularly easy to get along with Korean students which is why she decided to pursue a teaching opportunity in Korea. She even attended Yonsei University in Seoul for a semester as a study abroad student and fell in love with the city. She is currently working at ChungDahm Learning’s April Daechi branch located in Gangnam, Seoul.
