4 Fun Activities in Korea That Don't Involve Going to a Bar or Club

Posted on Tue, May 03, 2016 @ 03:00 PM

Korea is known for its history mixed with modern technology. People come to teach in Korea because the money is good and because they can still live somewhat live in a ‘Westernized’ manner. Even as that may be, most people who come will at least try to live up to the hype of partying “Gangnam Style” to see what it’s all about. However, if you are not into getting drunk off of cheap soju or from bottle service at one of Seoul’s premier clubs, here are four activities in Korea that you can do to enjoy your time while living in Seoul.

The Hottest New Museum in Korea - The D Museum

Posted on Thu, Feb 25, 2016 @ 03:30 PM

When people conjure up thoughts of Korea, many people assume that Korea is all about its Kpop music and soju drinking lifestyle. However, the one reason why I enjoy living in Korea is because there is something for everyone. If you enjoy outdoor activities to nightlife partying, Korea has something for you. But one thing you must know is that Korea is a very trendy place. Top trends in 2015 included honey butter chips, multi-colored hair, and flavored soju. So for in 2016 one of the top new trends is the up and coming art scene and one the best displays of this at the D Museum.  If you are interested in seeing funky and modern art exhibits, then you must visit this place while teaching in Korea

Posted on Mon, Jun 02, 2014 @ 05:53 PM

For an amazing day trip away from the hustle and bustle of Seoul, head down south to an area called Gwacheon. It is easily accessible from Line 4 (Baby Blue subway line). Our adventure started at Seoul Racecourse Park and ended at Seoul Grand Park (a total of two stops!) Within these two stops, there are some amazing activities to do.

Things to Do in Korea: Seodaemun Prison

Posted on Mon, Apr 14, 2014 @ 10:51 AM

Always one for exploring museums and learning about history, I finally checked off a spot I'd really been interested in visiting: Seodaemun Prison History Hall. During my time in Korea, I've been very interested in any opportunity to learn more about the country's past, and friends have told me this museum was not to be missed. Now that spring has sprung, it seemed like the prime time to walk around the prison's grounds in Seoul and take in the history of the place.

Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art in Seoul

Posted on Mon, Mar 24, 2014 @ 07:51 PM

Near the end of 2013, years of construction finally came to a close and the Seoul branch of Korea's Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art opened. Located next to Gyeongbok Palace in my favorite area of Seoul, this new museum offers excellent exhibits that range from sculptures, paintings, and interactive installations. I happily spent a few hours there recently and I highly recommend checking it out while you're in Seoul

Quirky Korea: Samcheongdong's Owl Museum

Posted on Sun, Feb 23, 2014 @ 01:00 PM

In case you haven't noticed, owls are super "in" right now, and Korea is definitely following suit. They also happen to be one of my favorite animals and in the past decade or so, I've amassed quite an owl collection. You can just imagine my elation and fascination, then, when I heard that Seoul has an actual Owl Museum! After spending the morning walking around the Bukchon Hanok Village, my friends and I wandered through the neighboring Samcheongdong to see what this Owl Museum was all about...

Art in Korea: Studio Ghibli & Mucha at Seoul Arts Center

Posted on Thu, Sep 12, 2013 @ 11:30 AM

As a kid, I was fortunate to live in a city with impressive art museums, theater, and ballet. Coming to Korea, I remember hoping I would be able to continue to see great art exhibits and ballet performances. Luckily, living near Seoul has kept these diversions available to me, which has been, for lack of more descriptive word, awesome. This past Saturday, some friends and I decided to head to Seoul Arts Center to check out two art exhibits currently on display: Studio Ghibli and Alphonse Mucha.

To see my top five Jeju Museums, check out my last blog entitled: Jeju Island: The Land of Museums! Without further ado, here is number six on the list....

An English Teacher in Korea Goes To The Trick Art Museum

Posted on Thu, Mar 15, 2012 @ 10:17 AM

As a teacher in South Korea, there are plenty of places to choose from in Seoul when you don't have anything planned for the weekend. Now that I teach on Saturdays, it's pretty much impossible to travel anywhere far. The good news is that this is the perfect chance to explore Seoul even more. I decided to call up a couple of my friends and check out the famous Trick Art Museum.
