The Hottest New Museum in Korea - The D Museum

Posted on Thu, Feb 25, 2016 @ 03:30 PM

When people conjure up thoughts of Korea, many people assume that Korea is all about its Kpop music and soju drinking lifestyle. However, the one reason why I enjoy living in Korea is because there is something for everyone. If you enjoy outdoor activities to nightlife partying, Korea has something for you. But one thing you must know is that Korea is a very trendy place. Top trends in 2015 included honey butter chips, multi-colored hair, and flavored soju. So for in 2016 one of the top new trends is the up and coming art scene and one the best displays of this at the D Museum.  If you are interested in seeing funky and modern art exhibits, then you must visit this place while teaching in Korea

5 Reasons to Visit Jeonju's Hanok Village

Posted on Tue, Nov 17, 2015 @ 06:30 PM

Jeonju is one of the most popular places in all of South Korea for food and is a must visit during your teaching experience. Located in North Jeolla Province, this is a must go to destination if you want to experience the old traditional lifestyles. A group of ChungDahm teachers decided to take the 3.5 hour bus ride out of Seoul to experience traditional Korean culture.

ChungDahm Teachers Head to Tokyo for a Weekend Getaway

Posted on Mon, Oct 06, 2014 @ 01:42 PM

With autumn quickly approaching,  a few of us teachers decided to take in the sights of Tokyo, Japan. Due to middle school testing over the last few weeks of September, my fellow teachers and I have had a lot of energy to burn off from not teaching.

Teachers Embrace Korean Culture by Visiting The Museum of Modern Contemporary Art

Posted on Tue, Sep 23, 2014 @ 10:10 AM

Over the Chuseok long weekend, it seemed appropriate to get some Korean culture inside of us. Korea is filled with different museums and Seoul's Museum of Modern Contemporary Art was highly recommended by one of my friends. Near Gyeongbokgung Palace, there is a vast area of restaurants and museums that couples and tourists flock to over the weekend. The Museum of Modern Contemporary Art is just one of the sister museums located in Korea. The others being in Gwacheon, Deoksugung, and Cheongju.

Chungdahm Travel Club at Lotte World

Posted on Wed, Sep 17, 2014 @ 09:26 AM

I’ve mentioned in my previous blogs that I really appreciate the fact that Chungdahm is doing its best to take care of its teachers so that they have a life outside of work. With that being said, over the Chuseok holiday, almost 70 teachers gathered to visit one of the most popular amusement parks in Korea, Lotte World. Lotte World is located in southern Seoul outside of Jamsil Station (Green Subway Line 2, Pink Subway Line 8).

4 Ways to Golf in Korea

Posted on Wed, Jul 09, 2014 @ 09:00 AM

“Some of the top golfers in the world come from Korea,” said my dongsaeng (little Korean brother). He told me 10 of the top 25 female golfers come from South Korea. I wondered to myself, “How could this be? Korea doesn’t even have a lot of golf courses!” There are golf courses, but the majority of them are an hour or two drive out of Seoul (Korean real estate prices are ridiculously high, so it makes sense that it is not in the city.) If you can’t get away, here are some ways to get your golfing fix:

Exploring Korea: Suwon's Hwaseong Fortress

Posted on Wed, Jul 02, 2014 @ 09:54 AM

One thing that I really love about living in Korea is the history that's simply everywhere. With Korea's rapid modernization, fancy cities have sprung up around old structures, creating a really interesting contrast of the new against the historical. One of the coolest examples of this is Suwon's Hwaseong Fortress. It's right outside of Seoul, easily accessible via the subway, making it an excellent daytrip that you should check out this summer!

Top 3 Mountains to Hike for Beginners in Korea

Posted on Fri, Jun 06, 2014 @ 03:04 PM

If you have been around Korea for a while and have the determination to wake up early in the morning, you may have noticed the many Koreans on the subway with their hiking gear on. Hiking and mountain climbing are some of Korea’s favorite pastimes. When I first came to Korea, I was overweight and didn’t have a lot of money for a gym membership. A really good friend of mine said we should hike together. I was dreading exercise, but I was so happy with my decision to do it. I got so into hiking, I lost about 15 kilograms (33 lbs.) over five months. Instead of staying in and working out at the gym, one day a week I do my best to get outdoors and do some hiking. These are my top 3 mountains to climb if you are a novice like how I was.

Korea Must-See: Dongdaemun Design Plaza & Park

Posted on Fri, Apr 18, 2014 @ 07:14 PM

Next to Dongdaemun Gate is an area of Seoul famous for its countless markets, ranging from clothing to textiles to craft supplies. Now, in the middle of these more traditional markets and hip shopping malls, a structure that looks like something out of a futuristic landscape has finally been unveiled. This spaceship-like building is the new Dongdaemun Design Plaza, and not only is it really, really cool, but possibly one of my new favorite spots to visit in Seoul.

Museum of Modern & Contemporary Art in Seoul

Posted on Mon, Mar 24, 2014 @ 07:51 PM

Near the end of 2013, years of construction finally came to a close and the Seoul branch of Korea's Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art opened. Located next to Gyeongbok Palace in my favorite area of Seoul, this new museum offers excellent exhibits that range from sculptures, paintings, and interactive installations. I happily spent a few hours there recently and I highly recommend checking it out while you're in Seoul
