One of the great parts of working for ChungDahm Learning is that there are tremendous growth opportunities after you have become an experienced teacher. Some of the positions may be within your location, while others are on the corporate side. One of the major perks of pursuing these positions is that it is a way to not only gain more responsibility, but also make more money. This blog will detail four positions you can pursue once you gain valuable teaching experience at ChungDahm.
- Team Leader – As a team leader, you are responsible for leading your team. You are in charge of facilitating communication between the foreign teachers and the Korean staff – including the Faculty Manager or Principal. Currently, I am a team leader and I enjoy this position because I like coaching others so that they can improve as a teacher. Furthermore, team leaders are responsible for monitoring CCTV so that all of the teacher’s classes can run as smoothly as possible.
- Faculty Manager – Faculty Managers oversee the academy and help plan out the classes that your location will offer. They also help students decide on what additional classes they should take during the middle school testing period or during the winter/summer vacations. Finally, the Faculty Managers help with the recruitment of new teachers and assisting them with getting their visas, and settling into their new apartments. I am really thankful to my faculty manager in particular because he helped me set up my apartment and got my cell phone working. Speaking Korean isn’t a must nor is it a requirement, but it can help.
- Trainer at Headquarters – If you are really good at your job and you feel like you want to help others be good at theirs, then becoming a trainer at headquarters may be a good fit for you. If you are lucky to be a trainer at headquarters, you are the first person that the new candidates sees when they come to Korea. It is a great responsibility because you have a direct influence on how the new candidates perform as they make the transition to teaching at ChungDahm. Not only do you help with the mock teaching, but you can also help the candidates with student management. Trainers have a lot on their plate because the majority of them work as trainers prior to go teaching at their normal teaching locations.
- Curriculum Developer – While trainers help with coaching the new teachers for ChungDahm, curriculum developers have a direct influence on what the students learn. They develop the material and content for each of ChungDahm’s classes to make sure students become well-rounded in creativity and critical thinking. Many think that ChungDahm only teaches reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills, however, students also get to learn how to cooperate with others through working on creative projects. With these projects, students get to share it with all the members of the ChungDahm community through the loudestbrain.com website.
As you can see, there are multiple opportunities to grow within ChungDahm. This is one of main the reasons why I recently decided to stay for a fifth year, because it allows me to teach (which I love doing) and lead a team (which I also love doing). If you just want to teach, that is great too. Since ChungDahm starts late in the afternoon, numerous teachers have taken courses located online and on university campuses so they can also continue to grow professionally.
