You will find celebrating Christmas while teaching in Korea to be very unique. Although you will hear a lot of Christmas music, see trees and building lit up, and people dressed in Santa suits, it still doesn't always feel like the Christmas season you are used to back home. The summer can get very hot and humid here in Korea and one of the best places to go while teaching in Korea is an area about 1 hour from Seoul by subway called Gapyeong (Gapyeong Station – Gyeongchun subway line). If you choose to get there a bit faster, you can opt to take the iTX railway for a few more dollars.

Recently, during a return trip to beautiful Gapyeong and its Nami Island, we decided to check out another tourist spot in the area. Gapyeong's lush countryside offers quite a few attractions -- in addition to Nami, two of the most popular are the Garden of Morning Calm and Petite France. We made this visit to Gapyeong while my sister was here, having taken the long way home from her teaching job in France. So, obviously, we had to visit the French "village" in Korea.

By "day trip" I mean just an hour or two of travel from Seoul, with activities that can be accomplished in one day, and time to get all the way home again before bed. Technically, anywhere in the entire country could be seen as a day trip as it's approximately the size of Indiana, but here are my favorite spots that are really easy to get to and from.
