All of South Korea has many mountains. Thus, it is no wonder that one of Korea's favorite pastimes is to go for a nice hike. Now, I am used to hiking, because in my hometown in California, I lived in a valley. Still, those mountains do not compare to the size or the beauty of the mountains in Korea. While there are various famous hikes in Korea for the more experienced hikers, I would like to introduce a hiking trail that is great for beginners who want to work their way into becoming a local hiking expert in the near future.

One of the longest breaks you will have as a ChungDahm teacher is during the Korean holiday of Chuseok (Korean Thanksgiving). The other major holiday would be Seollnal (Lunar New Years). Whenever these holidays approach, I always take the time to leave the city. In times past, I’ve visited Malaysia, Manila, and Busan. We have had teachers visit Hong Kong and Thailand during this long vacation too. This year, I decided to take time and go to a place that I had been to before but never got a really chance to explore. This place I decided to go back to was Jeju.

How To Maintain A Healthy and Fit Lifestyle While Teaching in Korea

Prior to moving abroad to teach English in Korea, one of my concerns was about how to maintain a healthy lifestyle. At home, I enjoyed regularly exercising at a gym and have done so for years. Coming to Korea, I was apprehensive about whether or not I would be able to access an athletic center, and how my body would, inevitably change. I have been pleasantly surprised at how simple it has been to exercise regularly and stay active. I'm going to share some of my experiences so far related to health and fitness living in Seoul.

When I decided to teach in Korea, I knew that I would probably do some hiking – as Korea has many mountains. One thing I did not realize, however, was just how much Korean people love their outdoor activities.  Thankfully for me, I also enjoy outdoor recreation al activities. It comes as no surprise to my friends back in Ireland that the three things I love doing the most in South Korea all involve the outdoors.
