Explore Kyoto While Teaching in Korea

Posted on Tue, Feb 07, 2017 @ 04:17 PM

When you are teaching in Korea and have a 3 day weekend working for ChungDahm or April, it's always worth your while to take a mini vacation if you can afford it. Now that I am splitting my time between teaching ChungDahm and April Academy, I am getting more time off. Knowing that Lunar New Year would be coming up, my friend and I realized how expensive those tickets would be. So we decided to go on our trip the weekend before the major holiday. She had never been to Osaka or Kyoto so we decided to see if we could spend one day in Osaka and one day in Kyoto. My advice would be to not do it. A one day trip to either place is not nearly enough time to soak in what each city has to offer. There is so much to see and do in both places, you will not do either city its justice. Many teachers love to go to Osaka because it is only a 2 hour flight from Incheon International Airport (ICN) to Kansai International Airport (KIX). The last time I took this trip, we spent a full day at Universal Studios Japan (Osaka) and toured the following day. However, many teachers don't realize how close, how beautiful, and how historic Kyoto is. Here was my to-do list for traveling to Kyoto.

Visit Japan while Teaching English in South Korea

Posted on Thu, Nov 13, 2014 @ 10:01 AM

When I was in my final year of university in Ireland I had decided that I would like to travel. I wanted to see Asia in particular, as I had not been there before. I wanted to see as many countries as possible.  So I thought, what better way to travel than by teaching English abroad. I saw a posting on my university job board advertising an English Teaching job in South Korea.  I had never even thought about visiting South Korea when I was looking into traveling. I had looked at Thailand, China, Japan and even Malaysia but not South Korea. 18 months later I can honestly say it’s been one of the best decisions I have made in my life. South Korea is an amazing country.

While Teaching in South Korea, Travel to Tokyo! (Part 1)

Posted on Thu, Aug 15, 2013 @ 11:10 AM

One of the huge pluses of living abroad is that you move closer to countries that you want to visit. Living in South Korea gives you cheaper access to Southeast Asia, China, and Japan. For Chusok, a Thanksgiving-like Holiday in Korea, a couple friends and I traveled to Tokyo for four days. The experience was incredible.

Country-hopping for the weekend when teaching in Korea

Posted on Thu, Jul 12, 2012 @ 09:19 AM

Although I still have an endless number of places I want to go while teaching English in Korea, I decided that I needed a change of scenery for the weekend. Since Japan and Korea are so close to each other, my fellow English teachers and I were able to find round trip tickets for about $300 US. I'd say that's a sweet deal considering that you're going to a different country and I remember paying more than that for my trip to NY from Georgia!
