Cherry Blossoms Everywhere:The 5 Best Festival Locations in Korea

Posted on Fri, Apr 06, 2018 @ 12:19 PM

It’s finally that time of year again - spring! The weather is nice out, the sky is clear, and the sun is shining. What marks the beginning of the season the most in Korea is the long awaited and short lived cherry blossoms blooming. I live next to a main street lined with these amazingly beautiful trees. Walking to work these days has been very peaceful and relaxing due to the sight and smell of cherry blossoms.

The cherry blossom forecast date predictions occur about a month before its time for them to bloom. Depending upon which area you are living in, the time frame to enjoy the cherry blossoms is slightly different. Unusually, the time to see cherry blossoms when they are the most enchanting is in early April. Being informed about when the expected cherry blossom season occurs in advance is a must, so that one can plan accordingly considering the experience only last about two weeks. Only two weeks. Sad. I know. Still, these two weeks are when traveling around Korea on fun weekend adventures will result in the best photos that you can show off with.

The following are five locations around Korea that offer the best cherry blossom festival experiences. Enjoy!

Posted on Tue, Apr 25, 2017 @ 12:00 PM

Spring is a popular season in Korea. Plenty of tourists travel to North East Asia to view the Cherry Blossoms, which bloom in Korea and Japan during the month of April. The season begins in March and ends around May,  as the temperatures warm up for Summer in June. Spring is also a season for harvesting. It is common to see countryside farmers planting rice and potatoes, as well as sowing seeds and pruning trees.  In this blog I will offer a variety of ways you and your friends can enjoy the comfortable spring weather while living and teaching in Korea.

Travel to 3 secret, beautiful locations in South Korea

Posted on Tue, Apr 22, 2014 @ 10:17 PM

If you're just paying attention to American media, you don't hear too much about South Korea beyond conflicts with North Korea, but it's actually a very beautiful country. Interestingly, a few of the most beautiful places I've been in this country haven't gotten much recognition. Why? They probably simply haven't gotten their fifteen minutes of fame YET. So let's get that going. Let the first minute begin!

Korea Must-See: Cherry Blossoms in Springtime

Posted on Tue, Apr 08, 2014 @ 10:18 AM

Springtime in Korea is without a doubt my favorite season. It's often far too short for my taste, but while it's here, it's wonderful. Green bits of grass are finally popping up, new leaves are sprouting on the trees, and the cherry blossoms are blooming in full force. To me, the cherry blossoms officially herald the beginning of sunny, warm days, and making time to see them is always on the top of my spring to-do list.

Spring's Last Hurrah: A Wedding Day in Korea

Posted on Mon, Jul 08, 2013 @ 03:47 PM

While living and teaching in Korea these last three weeks, I've been invited to two Korean weddings. I was first invited as a plus one by a fellow English teacher, and my second invitation came from my Korean friend, but with the request to bring 1-2 other English speakers. This was so I wouldn't be completely without someone to talk to; the other wedding guests did not speak much English. My friend and I were met with open arms regardless of the language barrier however, because for Korean weddings, it's a sort of tradition that the more people who attend your wedding, the better luck you will have in your future.

Cherry Blossoms in South Korea

Posted on Wed, Apr 24, 2013 @ 04:10 PM

When I first got to Korea in May 2012, I was told that there were many things to see and do.  Having done many new things in Korea and thoroughly enjoying myself, I was really looking forward to was the Cherry Blossom Festival in Gyeongju, South Korea.  I was told that the Cherry Blossoms would be the thing to see come spring time.  I was so looking forward to this.  Initially, I thought of going with the popular organizers “Adventure Korea” but when I realized that Pohang International Church (PIC) would also be going for the day, I decided that I could wait a week and go with PIC.  I also decided to sign up for a marathon that would take place that weekend as well; a 5K (approximately 3.2 miles).  I was excited!

A friend went with Adventure Korea the weekend before I was set to got with PIC and it looked gorgeous.   Although it rained on that Saturday, the pictures she took on Sunday were incredible.  I was hoping for the same experience; bike riding along the lake with the beautiful scenery of dozens of cherry blossoms in the back drop.  That however, did not happen.
